    The Final Cut

DOWNLOAD BROCHURE

This fun filled film-festival event sees the larger group split into smaller teams of 3 to 10 people. Each team is given a video camera and charged with producing their very own short film.

This is a truly inventive way to launch a new product range or company motto or even a new logo as potential items to be featured in the film!

Each person will receive a box of props which must be used in a 2- 5 minute commercial, documentary or short film and they will be randomly allocated a particular style or theme which their film must reflect, for example...

  • Austin Powers

  • Queer Eye for the Straight Guy

  • Horror

  • Western

  • Crocodile Hunter

  • And many more!

The final product will be displayed after the event or during a conference, perhaps that evening during dinner, in the form of a fantastic Oscar Ceremony where we award Oscars to the Best Actor, Actress, Commercial, Use of Product etc.

This fun event, encompasses teamwork and creativity while being a great way to introduce participants to a new product, logo or work culture.

"Rock & Ice take away any danger of nodding off during that post-lunch session at the conference. Our team were fully engaged in the activity, having lots of fun, and importantly, strengthening the relationships between us. The Oscars award ceremony was a hilarious way to incorporate a dinner activity."

    The Cryptic Quest

DOWNLOAD BROCHURE

Each team follows their own cryptic map around the city of Christchurch to follow a trail of clues that will lead them to a hidden dinner or conference location. On their travels, the clues can only be obtained by performing an activity or looking for a mysterious character.

This event is a great way to learn about some of Christchurch's history and, depending on your time constraints and budget, can incorporate the use of Christchurch activities, such as the Christchurch Trams to move between certain locations, and punting on the Avon to discover important clues.

The Cryptic Quest will encourage:

  • Teamwork

  • Proactive Competition

  • Problem Solving

  • Conflict Resolution

  • Time Management Skills

  • Fun!

and is a great way to reward a team. We can debrief the event to discuss comments made by individuals and how teams behaved to maximise the learning.

"Both the BLACKCAPS and NZ Cricket staff had a great experience on our conference, and it was Rock & Ice who were the catalyst for that. We'll certainly be using your services again!"

  • As a human pyramid

  • In a barbers chair

  • Pouring a pint behind a bar

SCAVENGER CHALLENGES

Each team is given a list of items they must collect along the way. These may include an item of local historical significance, an item related to your company, an NZ flag ...

LOCAL KNOWLEDGE CHALLENGES

Once they have finished they will make their way back to the finish where we will have a data projector screening the images on a big screen. There is always heaps of laughter and raised voices.

This is a fantastic fun activity which allows team to get outside and work together in a different environment from the norm, and be creative!

   Shackleton's Lost Treasure

DOWNLOAD BROCHURE

Located on Quail Island in Lyttelton Harbour, Chch, this event sees teams deciphering clues, completing challenges and piecing together treasure maps to be the first to find the lost treasure of Ernest Shackleton.

This programme is largely centred on the aspects of high performing teams, and will enable participants to learn new skills and covers the following areas:
  • Lateral thinking
  • Problem Solving
  • Trust
  • Group development
  • Risk taking
  • Decision making
  • Communication
  • Conflict Resolution

The day will begin with a few icebreaker games as we get the group interacting and having fun, ready for the activities ahead. We then split the larger group into smaller teams of 5 - 12, and they will race against one another while completing challenges, solving riddles, deciphering clues, and piece together treasure maps to be the first to the hidden treasure.

This is a fantastic activity for encouraging your team to 'think outside the square', and to truly test their teamwork in a unique environment. It also works well as an activity for a conference or incentive group.

"We were challenged as a team in a practical way to utilise our collective skills to achieve, which was great! Too often 'Team Building' activities revolve around the non practical touchy feely stuff - this didn't!"

   Christchurch Chaos

DOWNLOAD BROCHURE

This is a truly unique way to see the sights of Christchurch. The groups complete a number of activities in central Christchurch including Punting on the Avon; Old Time Bicycles in Hagley Park, the Cathedral Tower climb and beer and food tasting at a local pub.

Designed to showcase central Christchurch, this event features many activities, some are problem solving, whilst others are pure Christchurch sightseeing, but ALL are great fun, and provide a truly unique way to see the city.

H
ere are a few examples of some of the activities we typically use in Christchurch Chaos...

Cathedral Climb: Climb to the top of the cathedral bell tower.

Punting on the Avon: A leisurely way to make your way down the Avon.

Beer Taste Test: Match the beer with its description at a local tavern.

Old Time Bicycles: With each person aboard a bike, the team will follow a loop track in Hagley Park to solve the clues they have been given.

A great programme for nation-wide, overseas and local delegates.

"We're very impressed with Rock and Ice and the great activities that made this day so special. It encourages teamwork and people being able to laugh at themselves with others without taking it all too seriously. I would use Rock & Ice again, especially in a situation where teams may not necessary work well together, but need to."

   The Team Challenge

DOWNLOAD BROCHURE

The definition of team building is the Rock & Ice Team Challenge!

Each team follows their own path around a park area which would lead them to a challenge. These challenges are primarily problem solving based, and are not too physically demanding but will challenge participants to ‘think outside the square’ and work within their teams to solve the puzzles.

The activities all focus on the key elements of teamwork, and can be easily tailored to meet the specific team building objectives of your workforce. This programme has also been used with great results as a form of employee or student induction and evaluation.

We select the actual challenges from our extensive range depending on what best suits your outcomes. An example of the activities are:

The Bridge Build: The team is given some carefully measured planks and their task is for all team members to cross a ditch or stream. Not as easy as it first looks, this challenge will encourage problem solving, team discussions
and conflict resolution as they use the rules of physics to get the team across.

River Crossing: Using special “pontoons” the team must cross a wild (mild!) river without getting wet! In true Territorial Army style, the trick here is to work together. A physical activity which requires some thought.

This programme is largely centred on the aspects of high performing teams.

"Rock & Ice were able to put together a management training activity that met the competency outcomes we were introducing and enabled all our staff, of all ages, genders and physical ability, to learn and experience those competencies in a fun and healthy manner."

A must if you are conferencing in Hanmer, a magical thermal village located 90 minutes from Christchurch.

A great way to experience Hanmer, this event sees groups of 8 to 12 compete against one another and go head-to-head to determine the top team. Each activity will be marked by an accompanying Rock & Ice guide, and the winning teams and individuals will be rewarded at our Olympic Awards ceremony at the conclusion of the event.

Here are some of events we typically use in 'Hanmer Chaos'...

Mini Golf: Your team must complete a number of holes in the least number of shots

Bike Challenge: Teams will board mountain bikes, and bike to the various locations, in rally style to complete a set of questions based on locations around Hanmer.. Great fun as the teams race around Hanmer within the given time.

Hurunui Jones Maze: The local maze must be completed by the whole team in the least possible time.

Low Ropes Course: The team must complete a series of exercises on the challenging Low Ropes Course. Although no activity is higher than one metre above the ground, this is trickier than it might appear.

   Adventure Ropes Course

DOWNLOAD BROCHURE

Located at the picturesque Mt Hutt Station, an hours drive from Christchurch, or alternatively at South New Brighton, the Adventure Ropes Course provides a challenge to all. With activities with names such as Dangle Duo, and Wild Woozy you can be sure your team will have fun as they step outside their comfort zone.

Featuring low and high ropes initiatives,  we provide an environment where people will be more likely to take on new challenges that they might not have before.

The ropes course provides both a fantastic team building exercise and a very real personal challenge. Individuals are challenged to step outside their comfort zones and tackle a real fear - the fear of heights.

Here are just
a some of our high ropes activities:

THE BEAM:
is a 4m long pole approximately 9m off the ground.  The participant is challenged to climb up an adjoining pole to get to the beam and then walk across the beam and touch the pole on the other side - and then come back!

THE MULTI VINE: is made up of a foot wire, a rope wire and the hanging ropes spread out along the rope wire.  The two participants will be challenged to climb an adjoining pole up to the event and then negotiate their way across the event and touch the pole on the other side.

THE DANGLE DUO: resembles a huge hanging ladder made up of wooden rungs and wire cables. The lengths between the rungs gradually increase as they move farther up the ladder. The participants will be challenged to climb the ladder and touch the very top wire as a finish point.

   Jet Boat & Raft Build

DOWNLOAD BROCHURE

This unique rafting event begins with a 20 minute Jet Boat ride up river where a range of raft building equipment awaits. In teams of 6 - 8, each group must construct a sea-worthy raft and make their down the river.

Our most popular summer activity, this event is run during the summer months only and is held on both the Rakaia River (an hour from Christchurch) and the Waiau River, Hanmer (90 minutes from Christchurch).

After 360 degree spins and fast turns in the jet boat, teams will be given a variety of our specially designed unsinkable rafts, aluminium framing, wetsuits and all the necessary safety equipment.

Accompanying the fleet of rafts will be safety kayakers to wind your group up or to assist and guide if necessary. The Rock & Ice team know how to ensure a great time is had by all. By all means supply teams with water bombs and we can judge raft design and team performance if you wish to have an awards ceremony! Or how about ending with a BBQ on the banks?

The team will have had a fantastic time on the river, thoroughly enjoying one another's company. This is an experience which will be remembered for a long time to come.

Situated in the Rakaia Gorge area, an hour from Christchurch there is a vast array of activities for you and your group to take part in. Choose from Claybird Shooting, Jet Boating, Golf, Archery, Horse trekking, Abseiling, and rafting.

These are all fantastic activities in their own right, but the best thing about the Rakaia region (located an hours drive from Christchurch) is that all these activities are located in close proximity to one another meaning your group can be participating in a number of these at the same time, before they move on to the next one.

This activity is ideally suited for an organisation looking to reward their staff or customers in an action packed fun day out, or part of a conference where delegates get the chance to experience a number of events mentioned.

   Above and Below the Line

DOWNLOAD BROCHURE

An incredible presentation based on choices in life. There are two choices in life; you can choose to live above the line or below the line. Living above the line means we take ownership or our life, we're accountable for our actions and we are responsible. When we live below the line we blame others and situations, we deny problems exist and we make excuses.

Most organisations can recognise some or many of the behaviours resulting from living below the line. This presentation will help your team to turn around and begin to live, work and play above the line.

Many companies we have dealt with have found this single presentation to be the most effective way of countering negative behaviours.

We follow up the presentation with a quick team activity called the Magic Stick this is an effective way to immediately test the learning from the presentation and put the new skills to practice.

“Your very thought provoking presentation "Above and below the line" touched all of us greatly, and the team building event was outstanding.  Please extend our thanks and appreciation also to the lovely people in your organisation who lead us through the team challenges”

   Break Through the Barriers

DOWNLOAD BROCHURE

We do a lot of research at Rock & Ice to discover what makes people successful. This presentation is the top 5% of the information from books, articles, courses we've attended, successful people we've spoken with and from reflecting on our own successes. These are the ingredients that successful people use.

  1. Know that the INGREDIENTS create the outcome, to get a new result you MUST change the ingredients
  2. Take ownership of the circumstances of your life.
  3. Have crystal clear outcomes
  4. Extremely action orientated
  5. Switch on/switch off
  6. Focus on the 'Big Rocks'
  7. Solutions not problems
  8. Take on challenges - get outside your comfort zone

The climax to the presentation is the participants are then asked to take on the challenge and breakthrough through piece of wood with their bare hand.

This is the dramatic physical metaphor reinforcing the previous 45mins to an hours presentation, with each person actually breaking a board with their bare hand. This event provides an incredible feeling of achievement, and is usually something participants are raving about for weeks afterwards.

Although it may sound simple, it is an exercise that is truly powerful, and we guarantee each of the participants will feel very pumped after they complete the break.

It is a very motivating tool and one, which a number of organisations, including the Canterbury Crusaders, have found provides real focus for the challenges ahead.

“In the evaluations completed by players the overwhelming response to your session would have to rate it as the most popular of the camp, squeezing out the Silver Ferns this year!  They were shocked that it wasn’t just another ‘boring Goal Setting session’. Thanks so much for getting such valuable messages across to the girls.  Your passion for the topic and desire to assist other people to reach their potential certainly made this an impressionable session and an amazing experience for all”

   Team Style Profiling

DOWNLOAD BROCHURE

Team performance begins with individual performance. So, what do team members need to do individually to contribute to their team’s success? The "What's My Team Member Style?" profile provides the needed insight. The assessment helps individuals evaluate how they typically behave in a team and the results reveal their preference for one of 4 team member styles.

With increased awareness, they are able to appreciate other team members’ contributions and address differences proactively.

Learning Outcomes

  • Learn about the 4 team member styles

  • Identify personal team member style

  • Understand how to capitalize on style strengths and improve trouble spots

  • Identify the styles of fellow team mates

  • Plan how to take full advantage of the team mix of styles

  • Realise how one is perceived by team members through peer feedback

How It Works

Participants respond to 18 statements using a form. After scoring is complete, easy-to-read charts allow respondents to quickly scan the strengths and trouble spots that characterize their particular team member styles. To better understand how they are perceived, individual team members can then view Feedback Forms provided by their fellow team mates.

Each Participant Guide provides a worksheet for positive personal action planning, a diagram for creating a team profile, and team action planning.

The What's My Team Member Style? profile is an excellent way to kick off any team-building training and can be used as a stand-alone tool or as part of a larger programme.

I have been totally surprised and pleased by the reaction to a new set of instruments that have been introduced. The What's My Style? profile is simple to administer, explain, and "use on Monday." Perhaps the main reason is that the words that describe the four styles actually relate to the description of that style: Direct, Spirited, Considerate, and Systematic. People get it.

   Communication & Rapport

We all know people who are extremely effective communicators. They not only get their message across but also seem to interact well with the people they're speaking to. Everyone knows someone who just seems to hit it off with people as soon as they meet them. These people are excellent team players and cause sharp increases in productivity within their groups.

Researchers wanted to know what is was about these people that made them so effective in their communication. They discovered that the one thing that set these people apart was their ability to create rapid rapport with others. They also discovered that this skill could easily be taught to anyone. This means that with just a little instruction and practice we can quickly learn the skills that help us to build and maintain good rapport with another person. When we do that we not only get the job done, we also build the relationship.

We cover these topics and complete the presentation by having the group complete an activity known as the Name Game.
